My partner and I were recently invited to spend the weekend at the newly developed and recently launched Bliss Boutique Hotel situated in Sunset Beach, who have just been awarded 5-star grading by the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa. Excited at the prospect of a mini getaway, we were even more delighted at the sight of this little piece of heaven right on our doorstep.
We were welcomed by a striking big yellow door and staff members who politely showed us to our room, and then around the property. The view of Table Mountain and city centre from afar was spectacular and we couldn’t wait to discover the rest of the location.
We found home in Room 201, a Superior Room fitted with a queen bed with large comfy cushions and top quality linen. This modern and vibrant room had an en-suite bathroom with a shower and exquisite fixtures.
Once again, the view from the room was breathtaking! Being situated upstairs meant we had easy access to the restaurant and their popular rooftop viewing deck.
Downstairs, was the immaculate pool area and pedestrian gate which your room keycard opens allowing you access to your own private part of Blouberg beach. Some of the rooms, (8 all in all) including ours had access to the adjacent room to accommodate larger families.
As the sun set, we indulged in a few of their cocktails, with the signature ‘Bliss Cocktail’, rated as one of my favourite cocktails to date. We progressed from their to our table where we met head chef Dean Correria who runs the kitchen at Beach & Bites, the restaurant that serves a“fresh flavoursome fusion, with a little bit of everything.” From the bread served (freshly baked everyday by Chef Dean), to the excellent seafood, everything on the menu is fresh and locally sourced.
We ordered 6 dishes between the two of us to share, which consisted of: crispy beef, homemade chicken pie, pepper crusted beef fillet, crusted chicken strips, spicy buffalo wings and thai prawn curry.
Although service took longer than we expected, the food we were served was absolutely delicious and could not be faulted. From the portion size, to the taste and flavours, one of the tastiest tapas meals I have experienced recently.
What I loved the best about the dinner were the dinner napkins, which looked like after dinner mints. As I was about to pick one up to eat, the owner chuckled and poured water over them and I watched them unravel into napkins. I almost recreated the exact movie scene from the Hollywood movie ‘Spy’ with Melissa McCarthy and Jason Statham. Those who have seen it will know exactly what I am talking about! – view it on my Facebook page!
The restaurant is open for breakfast, tapas and dinner and is also open to the public where booking is essential.
After a bit too much to drink, we went to bed and skipped dessert, but were welcomed to a delicious breakfast the following morning, or so my partner said. I was up at the crack of dawn to meet friends for a trail run, but even at 5:30am was greeted and wished well on my adventures by the staff.
The weather did not warrant a poolside leisurely tan session that day but I do look forward to visiting Bliss Boutique Hotel again and making use of its amenities in the Summer time, where the upper deck looks perfect for sundowners and get togethers with friends.
Bliss Boutique Hotel is also the very first hotel in Africa to offer guests a tech savvy means of accessing their beautiful rooms! This allows guests to open their rooms with their phones by simply holding the phone in front of an electronic pad on the door. Once a room is booked and paid, an invite to download the blue tooth application is sent to a guests phone from the hotel.
